Grimaud, Port Grimaud and Ramatuelle instead of harbour rush; arrive by car from Italy or fly into Nice.

Background

History.

In the 18th/19th centuries the Riviera became a winter quarter for British and Russian aristocracy; Nice’s Promenade des Anglais still carries that name.

Picasso lived and worked in the region (Antibes, Vallauris, later Mougins) and shaped the local art scene.

Today the Côte d’Azur mixes the coast road, yacht tourism and hinterland villages – high season and festival weeks need early booking.
